Andy Lipman is 35 years old. For most people, that`s not a significant age, but for Andy every year after 25 is an accomplishment. Andy fights a disease called cystic fibrosis (CF). CF is a disease that now has a median age of 36.8 years. When Andy was 7, it was much lower. At that time, Andy read an article that stated “CF patients don`t live to the age of 25.” Though for many years the disease beat him up inside, Andy now returns the punches in his book “Alive at 25: How I’m Beating Cystic Fibrosis.” Andy beats cystic fibrosis by keeping a positive attitude and working hard to stay fit. He is an avid weightlifter and has benched as much as 300 pounds. He has run the Peachtree Road Race, an annual 10K in Atlanta, 9 times. He also loves to play softball, flag football, and tennis. Andy wrote a second book, A Superhero Needs No Cape, click here for a synopsis of his new book. The book can be found at http://www.superherostory.com. Andy, with the help of many of his close friends, runs a softball tournament every year in memory of his sister. A Wish for Wendy has raised over $600,000 for the CF Foundation in 8 years. Andy was also fortunate to run with the Olympic Torch in December 2001. Andy married his inspiration, Andrea, on September 1, 2002. Andrea ran with the Olympic Torch in June of 2004. Thanks to medical assistance, Andrea gave birth to Avery Leah Lipman in 2006 and Ethan Cole Lipman in 2008. Andy’s words of wisdom are “Live your dreams and Love your life!”
Stay tuned for the Drive at 35: Cystic Fibrosis Takes a Back Seat which should be in bookstores in 2009.
